Since the beginning with the work Time Out (1983), Ludovico Einaudi has always been interested in theatre and dance, broadcasting on the stage his unique style made up of minimalist constituent structures. Even if he is from a classical background, since the early ‘80s the author committed himself to the search for a language more free, able to absorb different cultures and musical influences, such as the Rock from which it reflects its immediacy, emotional charge and sound impact. The topic of the journey has always fascinated Einaudi who already in 1995 with the opera/ballet Salgari (Per Terra E Per Mare) and, even more, in 2005 with Diario Mali turns its eye on the multi-coloured world surrounding us. Winter Journey is a journey into the contemporary desolate European winter, into the desperate loneliness of the ones forced to abandon their own country in order to embark for lands where they can beg and earn a living. This is a story which goes beyond the ordinary boundaries of love, whether it is defined as a romance between a man and a woman or between a baby and his parents. Loss, sorrow, loneliness, desperation, irony, these are the tones of the voices chasing each other, in a tragic meaning, which assumes sometimes the febrile tone of desire, at other times the lyric and moving one of absence.
