After an absence of more than twenty years, La Fanciulla del West (The Girl of the Golden West) is back to Teatro San Carlo with a new production directed by Hugo De Ana. After a sequence of female characters destined to sacrifice (Manon, Mimì and Cio-Cio-San), thanks to Minnie – the only woman in a world of men - Puccini discovers a new model of femininity: she is an aloof amazon, but, at the same time, a passionate lover determined to defend, at all costs, her own happiness.
