Chorus
History of the Chorus

The earliest information we have regarding a stable chorus at the Teatro San Carlo dates back to when the Maestro Giuseppe Papa (who later became "Papi" in the United States) decided, after numerous successes at the Scala Theatre in Milan, Madrid and the Colon of Buenos Aires, decided to settle down in Naples, where he had often appeared during the early stages of his career.
Here, he succeeded in creating an excellent chorus in a very short period of time.
It wasn't until the 1952-53 season, however, that the chorus became a stable element of the theatre and was able to contribute regularly to the prestige of the opera season which maintained a tradition that was particularly important to Naples.
