In 1730, the financial problems of Georg Friedrich Haendel began to worsen due to the extraordinary success of John Gay's The Beggar's Opera.
On 1 August 1752 the Theatre scheduled La Serva Padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The success was unprecedented.
Besides the operatic repertoire, the Theatre has been working towards the recovery of 18th century Neapolitan comic operas.
