Since its foundation in March 2004, the Children’s Choir has regularly taken part in all the productions of operas and concerts of the San Carlo Theatre; worth mentioning, among the others, the Third Symphony by Gustav Mahler, the Bohème and the Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, The Queen of Spades by Chaikowsky, Otello by Giuseppe Verdi, Carmen by George Bizet, Werther by Jules Massenet, Parsifal by Richard Wagner, Socrate Immaginario by Giovanni Paisiello (performed by the Choir at the Scala Theatre of Milan), L’Enfant et Les Sortilèges by Maurice Ravel.
Noteworthy are the works produced expressly for the Choir, such us The Little Sweep and A Ceremony of Cards by
Benjamin Britten, which present both solo and choral performances of children’s voices; Al lupo, al lupo!, a musical for teens loosely inspired to Aesop’s Tails, libretto and music by
Gaetano Panariello, Robinson, a work in 10 scenes, libretto by Dario and Lia del Como and music by
Carlo Boccadoro, the Dante Symphonie by
Franz Liszt.
The Choir has also performed live in the radio shows on Radio 3 and has participated in several shows and events: the soirée in Maestro
G. Maggiore’s honour, the documentary film “Castrats, la Voix des Anges” for the French TV, the International Ravello Festival.
The Choir has also participated in CD “Era de Maggio” for Rai Trade, performing musical reinterpretations of
Roberto De Simone on lyrics by
Salvatore Di Giacomo.
The young singers have approached the opera and the symphonic repertoire only after gaining solid theoretic music knowledge, and, in many cases, after learning how to play an instrument and how to sing both solo and in a choir. The choir has always been directed by
Stefania Rinaldi.
