NAPLES

A journey into Neapolitan tradition, the return of great classics of opera and symphonic repertoire, also “revisited” through a new sensitivity, international guests: this is the Season of the del Teatro di San Carlo 2011-2012.

The program proposed for the coming year will be characterized by a broad vision: 386 days of programming, more than 40 shows, with 7 new production, 5 successful productions, 22 concerts and 7 ballets, with important debuts and great returns on the stage of the oldest Lyric stage of Europe.

The operas will be signed by great directors from, coming from worlds close to the Opera, as Luca Ronconi, Roberto De Simone and Gabriele Lavia, and also some artists who will “revisit” the classics with their sensitivity, as Gianni Amelio and Paolo Rossi. On the podium, conductors of long experience, as William Barhkymer and Donato Renzetti, and again, international productions and Neapolitan collaborations, as “L’opera da tre soldi” which will see Massimo Ranieri and Lina Sastri as protagonists, directed by Luca De Fusco. The show will be produced in collaboration with Napoli Teatro Festival Italia and the Teatro Stabile di Napoli.
For the Ballet Season, with Ottobre Danza, a month of programming will be dedicated to this art: on the stage of the San Carlo some international guests will alternate, such as Carolyn Carlson and the Ballets de Lyon and Korea, as well as new productions. In 2012, however, some major choreographers will return, such as Nacho Duato, and a legend of the dance world, Roland Petit.
For the Symphonic Season, the San Carlo offers an extensive program of concerts with internationally renowned soloists, including Andràs Schiff (in collaboration with the Association “Alessandro Scarlatti”), Uto Ughi and Lang Lang, and major orchestras and guest conductors, among which the Simon Bolivar and the Orchestra Mozart, and the eagerly awaited returns of Riccardo Muti and Claudio Abbado, in addition to the young Diego Matheuz and Han Na Chang.
